Kiwi Kids News Episode 2

Libby & Quillan helped make Episode 2 which we really enjoyed watching at assembly on Monday. Room 19 featured a number of times. Count how many photos of us and if you are correct you will earn Village dollars. Well done to everyone involved and special thanks to Mrs Howison!

Below is Episode One that Luca and Lachlan helped to compile. What talented students we have.

Butterfly Garden Update

Today we started planting some 'nectar' plants into the butterfly garden. We need these plants to attract the butterflies. Over the next few weeks we will be able to add some more as they become available in the shops.

Thanks Swastik for the awesome photos.

Year 3-4 Big Day Out @ Action Sports

Our Big Day Out on Thursday the 13th September is a sports competition at Action Sports. The children will compete in mixed teams at soccer, touch, netball, dodge ball and cricket. The children will be placed in 'country' teams and rotate through all the activities.

Room 13,17 and 19 will leave school at 9:20am for a 10:00am start at Action Sport. Our competition will finish at 11:00am and we will be back at school by 11:45am.

Thank you so much to all the parents who have offered to help as managers and referees. We are very lucky to have such great support in Room 19, without you this activity would not have been possible.

What to wear/bring: Comfortable clothes (mufti suitable for playing sport in)
Sports shoes (no sandals, pumps or crocs)
A drink bottle with WATER in it
                                   Teamsmanship / manaakitanga

T3W8 Update & Reflections

Weekly Update

We have started our training for athletics. Everyone is very excited about the sprints track now marked out on the field and there has been a lot of extra practise going on at lunchtimes. Click on this link to see some excellent advice about discus and long jump skills on Room 17's Blog (Thanks Ms Ashby!)

On Friday we were very busy completing our art for the calendars. They look great! You can see our first attempt on display in the classroom and the final piece for the calendar is in the Room 19 Clearfile in the office. Make sure you check them out and get your orders in before the end of the term.

We hope to get a couple of more plants into the butterfly garden this week but most of the nectar plants will need to wait for a few more weeks until they are available in the garden centres. In the meantime we will be growing some from seed in boxes ready to plant out.

Butterfly Garden Update

Now that Spring has arrived, it has been possible to start work on the butterfly garden again. On Friday we added some compost to improve the soil and planted the swan plants we have been nurturing in our classroom. With the sunny weather we also took the chance to repaint (and seal) the decorative stones on the top of the wall.

This week we will be planting some flowers to attract and provide nectar for the butterflies. We will need to make sure the plants get enough water and remove any weeds that pop up. We can't wait for the butterflies to arrive.

Our new class pet!

Last week Room 19 was surprised to see a snail making its way across the steps into the classroom. It was a unanimous decision to adopt the snail as our new class pet. The first step was to think of a name for him. The final names we voted on were: Usain Bolt, Slick Willis or Gary.  It was a close vote but Gary was the most popular name. We were initially concerned about whether he was a boy or a girl, then we discovered that snails are hermaphodites - they all lay eggs!

Today we have been writing up instructions on how to make a suitable home for Gary. Here are some photos Angus took of Gary's new home. We had lots of fun watching Gary explore his aquarium.
Zoe puts soil on top of the
gravel base.
Ruby's old aquarium will make a
great snail home.

Quillan added a layer
of mulch.
Niamh put in some lettuce
for Gary to eat
We watched Gary move up the
side wall.

"What's over here?"

"Yum! Apple and lettuce for lunch."

"This looks like a good place to hide."
